Illini land top 40 center Kofi Cockburn

A 4-star or 5-star recruit (depending on which service you cite), Kofi Cockburn committed to Illinois this weekend despite visiting campus for the Illini’s loss to Florida Atlantic earlier this month. I thought that would be the nail in the coffin of his recruitment. I can’t imagine what this guy is thinking, but there must be something positive going on with Illini basketball.

Cockburn, originally from Brooklyn, is spending his senior season at storied ‘basketball factory’ Oak Hill Academy, which annually churns out some of the best basketball talent in the country.

Lack of size and depth in the front-court has plagued the Illini for longer than I can remember – the last effective big we had was arguably Meyers Leonard, who never really came into his own wearing the orange and blue. Before him, maybe Shaun Pruitt? His game left something to be desired, too. Even the 04/05 team was relatively small – Roger Powell played the four at like 6’6.

I’m excited to have a large, athletic big man. If for nothing else than the dunk potential. Plus, this pretty much guarantees that Ayo sticks around for a little while, right? (Not that he’s shown one-and-done potential this year)

And…ahem…the name. This is gonna be a fun couple of years.

Here’s his summer highlight reel:

Someone on Spotted in Chambana is reviewing various fruits

Yes – it’s the content we never knew we needed. Video reviews of various tropical fruits in the winter in the middle of the Midwest. This is actually the second of two videos in this vein. I hope it continues.

The tone of this blurb reads snarky but honestly I’m way into this, and you should be too. Usually the only content that comes out of Spotted in Chambana is vitriolic or hateful. I’ll take this any day of the week.

The recruiting news above made this one sting a little less. Plus the spread was +7.5. What more do you want? To beat Northwestern?
